eb36a3eb2f Allow multiple partial symbol readers per objfile
This patch finally changes gdb so that an objfile can have multiple
sources of partial symbols (or mixed partial symbols and other kinds
of indices).

This is done by having each symbol reader create its own
psymbol_functions object and add it to the 'qf' list in the objfile.

e11145903f Switch objfile to hold a list of psymbol readers
This changes objfile::qf to be a forward_list, and then updates all
the uses to iterate over the list. Note that there is still only ever
a single element in the list; this is handled by clearing the list
whenever an object is added.

d1eef86d12 Introduce objfile::require_partial_symbols
This adds a new method, objfile::require_partial_symbols. This reuses
most of the code from the old function in psymtab.c. That function is

4829711b6b Move psymtab statistics printing to psymtab.c
This moves all the psymtab statistics printing code form symmisc.c to
psymtab.c. This changes the formatting of the output a little, but
considering that it is a maint command (and, I assume, a rarely used
one), this seems fine to me.

This change helps further dissociate the psymtab from the objfile. In
the end there will be no direct connect -- only via the
quick_symbol_functions interface.

75336a5a2a Move psymbol_map out of objfile
objfile::psymbol_map is used to implement a Rust feature. It is
currently specific to partial symbols -- it isn't used by the DWARF
indices.

This patch moves it out of objfile and into psymbol_functions, adding
a new method to quick_symbol_functions to handle the clearing case.
This is needed because the map holds unrelocated addresses.

39298a5d97 Convert quick_symbol_functions to use methods
This changes quick_symbol_functions to be a base class with pure
virtual methods, rather than a struct holding function pointers.
Then, objfile is changed to hold a unique_ptr to an instance of this
class.

struct psymbol_functions is put into psympriv.h, and not psymtab.c,
because that is convenient later in the series.

5c3f1e5bfc Move sym_fns::qf to objfile
Currently the "partial" symbol reader is attached to the objfile's
symbol functions. However, in order to allow multiple separate
partial symbol readers, this association must be changed. This patch
moves the "qf" member out of sym_fns as a step toward that goal.

4d080b4687 Introduce method wrappers for quick_symbol_functions
This introduces wrappers for each function in quick_symbol_functions.
The wrappers are methods on objfile, and are defined in

Places that call the quick functions are all updated to call these new
wrapper methods.

5fae2a2c66 [gdb/breakpoint] Handle .plt.sec in in_plt_section
Consider the following test-case small.c:
...
 #include <stdio.h>
 #include <stdlib.h>
 #include <string.h>

 int main (void) {
   int *p = (int *)malloc (sizeof(int) * 4);
   memset (p, 0, sizeof(p));
   printf ("p[0] = %d; p[3] = %d\n", p[0], p[3]);
   return 0;
 }
...

On Ubuntu 20.04, we get:
...
$ gcc -O0 -g small.c
$ gdb -batch a.out -ex start -ex step
Temporary breakpoint 1, main () at small.c:6
6         int *p = (int *) malloc(sizeof(int) * 4);
p[0] = 0; p[3] = 0
[Inferior 1 (process $dec) exited normally]
...
but after switching off the on-by-default fcf-protection, we get the desired
behaviour:
...
$ gcc -O0 -g small.c -fcf-protection=none
$ gdb -batch a.out -ex start -ex step
Temporary breakpoint 1, main () at small.c:6
6         int *p = (int *) malloc(sizeof(int) * 4);
7         memset (p, 0, sizeof(p));
...

Using "set debug infrun 1", the first observable difference between the two
debug sessions is that with -fcf-protection=none we get:
...
[infrun] process_event_stop_test: stepped into dynsym resolve code
...
In this case, "in_solib_dynsym_resolve_code (malloc@plt)" returns true because
"in_plt_section (malloc@plt)" returns true.

With -fcf-protection=full, "in_solib_dynsym_resolve_code (malloc@plt)" returns
false because "in_plt_section (malloc@plt)" returns false, because the section
name for malloc@plt is .plt.sec instead of .plt, which is not handled in
in_plt_section:
...
static inline int
in_plt_section (CORE_ADDR pc)
{
  return pc_in_section (pc, ".plt");
}
...

Fix this by handling .plt.sec in in_plt_section.

Tested on x86_64-linux.

[ Another requirement to be able to reproduce this is to have a dynamic linker
with a "malloc" minimal symbol, which causes find_solib_trampoline_target to
find it, such that skip_language_trampoline returns the address for the
dynamic linkers malloc. This causes the step machinery to set a breakpoint
there, and to continue, expecting to hit it. Obviously, we execute glibc's
malloc instead, so the breakpoint is not hit and we continue to program
completion. ]

	PR breakpoints/27151
	* objfiles.h (in_plt_section): Handle .plt.sec.

dda83cd783 gdb, gdbserver, gdbsupport: fix leading space vs tabs issues
Many spots incorrectly use only spaces for indentation (for example,
there are a lot of spots in ada-lang.c). I've always found it awkward
when I needed to edit one of these spots: do I keep the original wrong
indentation, or do I fix it? What if the lines around it are also
wrong, do I fix them too? I probably don't want to fix them in the same
patch, to avoid adding noise to my patch.

So I propose to fix as much as possible once and for all (hopefully).

One typical counter argument for this is that it makes code archeology
more difficult, because git-blame will show this commit as the last
change for these lines. My counter counter argument is: when
git-blaming, you often need to do "blame the file at the parent commit"
anyway, to go past some other refactor that touched the line you are
interested in, but is not the change you are looking for. So you
already need a somewhat efficient way to do this.

Using some interactive tool, rather than plain git-blame, makes this
trivial. For example, I use "tig blame <file>", where going back past
the commit that changed the currently selected line is one keystroke.
It looks like Magit in Emacs does it too (though I've never used it).
Web viewers of Github and Gitlab do it too. My point is that it won't
really make archeology more difficult.

The other typical counter argument is that it will cause conflicts with
existing patches. That's true... but it's a one time cost, and those
are not conflicts that are difficult to resolve. I have also tried "git
rebase --ignore-whitespace", it seems to work well. Although that will
re-introduce the faulty indentation, so one needs to take care of fixing
the indentation in the patch after that (which is easy).

0684bb51b5 Remove partial symbol statistics
The "n_psyms" statistic in the per-objfile stats is not really needed,
but its use requires passing the objfile to add_psymbol. This patch
removes the field in favor of counting the psyms when needed.

Note that this is not exactly equivalent -- in the old approach, a
psymbol can in theory be created and then the psymtab discarded, which
would increment the counter. This does not seem very important to me.

I rewrote the code to count partial symbols; though TBH I think that
this information is not really very useful.

a7b4ff4f0a gdb/jit: skip jit symbol lookup if already detected the symbols don't exist
To detect whether an objfile is a JITer, we lookup JIT interface
symbols in the objfile. If an objfile does not have these symbols, we
conclude that it is not a JITer. An objfile that does not have the
symbols will never have them. Therefore, once we do a lookup and find
out that the objfile does not have JIT symbols, just set a flag so
that we can skip symbol lookup for that objfile the next time we reset
JIT breakpoints.

0e74a041c0 gdb/jit: split jit_objfile_data in two
The jit_objfile_data is currently used to hold information about both
objfiles that are the result of JIT compilation (JITed) and objfiles
that can produce JITed objfiles (JITers). I think that this double use
of the type is confusing, and that things would be more obvious if we
had one type for each role.

This patch splits it into:

- jited_objfile_data: for data about an objfile that is the result of a
  JIT compilation
- jiter_objfile_data: for data about an objfile which produces JITed
  objfiles

There are now two JIT-related fields in an objfile, one for each kind.
With this change, the following invariants hold:

- an objfile has a non-null `jiter_data` field iff it defines the required
  symbols of the JIT interface
- an objfile has a non-null `jited_data` field iff it is the product of
  JIT compilation (has been produced by some JITer)

238b5c9f08 gdb/jit: link to jit_objfile_data directly from the objfile struct
Remove the use of objfile_data to associate a jit_objfile_data with an
objfile. Instead, directly link to a jit_objfile_data from an objfile
struct. The goal is to eliminate unnecessary abstraction.

The free_objfile_data function naturally becomes the destructor of
jit_objfile_data. However, free_objfile_data accesses the objfile to
which the data is attached, which the destructor of jit_objfile_data
doesn't have access to. To work around this, add a backlink to the
owning objfile in jit_objfile_data. This is however temporary, it goes
away in a subsequent patch.

gdb/ChangeLog:

17ee85fc2a Share DWARF partial symtabs
This changes the DWARF reader to share partial symtabs (or indices if
they are available) across objfiles. This has a few parts.

* If multiple objfiles backed by the same BFD can share partial symtabs
  (see below), a single dwarf2_per_bfd is created. It is stored in the
  per-bfd `dwarf2_per_bfd_bfd_data_key` registry.  Multiple
  dwarf2_per_objfile objects will point to the same instance. The
  lifetime of these dwarf2_per_bfd objects is naturally handled. When
  all the objfiles using the BFD are destroyed, the BFD's refount drops
  to 0, which triggers the removal of the corresponding dwarf2_per_bfd
  object from the registry and its destruction.

* If multiple objfiles backed by the same BFD can't share partial
  symtabs (see below), one dwarf2_per_bfd object is created for each
  objfile. Each dwarf2_per_objfile will point to their own instance of
  dwarf2_per_bfd. These instances of dwarf2_per_bfd are kept in a
  per-objfile registry, meaning that when the objfile gets destroyed,
  the dwarf2_per_bfd instance gets destroyed as well.

* objfile::partial_symtabs is changed to be a shared_ptr again. This
  lets us stash a second reference in dwarf2_per_bfd; if the DWARF
  data is being shared, we can simply copy this value to the new
  objfile.

* Two dwarf2_per_objfile objects backed by the same BFD may share a
  dwarf2_per_bfd instance if:

  * No other symbol reader has found symbols, and
  * No BFD section rqeuires relocation

08feed99cb Change get_objfile_arch to a method on objfile
This changes get_objfile_arch to be a new inline method,
objfile::arch.

To my surprise, this function came up while profiling DWARF psymbol
reading. Making this change improved performance from 1.986 seconds
to 1.869 seconds. Both measurements were done by taking the mean of
10 runs on a fixed copy of the gdb executable.

be1e3d3eab Introduce objfile::intern
This introduces a string cache on the per-BFD object, replacing the
macro and filename caches. Both of these caches just store strings,
so this consolidation by itself saves a little memory (about the size
of a bcache per objfile).

Then this patch switches some allocations on the objfile obstack to
use this bcache instead. This saves more space; and turns out to be a
bit faster as well.

Here are the before and after "maint time" + "maint space" results of
"file ./gdb":

    Command execution time: 4.664021 (cpu), 4.728518 (wall)
    Space used: 39190528 (+29212672 for this command)

    Command execution time: 4.216209 (cpu), 4.107023 (wall)
    Space used: 36667392 (+26689536 for this command)

The main interface to the string cache is a new pair of overloaded
methods, objfile::intern.

b3b3bada0d gdb: introduce objfile text_section_offset and data_section_offset methods
The pattern

  objfile->section_offsets[SECT_OFF_TEXT (objfile)]

... appears very often, to get the offset of the text section of an
objfile. I thought it would be more readable to write it as:

6a053cb1ff Change section_offsets to a std::vector
This changes section_offsets to be specialization of a std::vector and
updates all the users. It also removes the ANOFFSET and
SIZEOF_N_SECTION_OFFSETS macros.

Most of this is just a generic sort of cleanup, that reduces the
number of lines of code. However, a couple spots were doing weird
things.

objfile_relocate did:

-      std::vector<struct section_offsets>
-	new_debug_offsets (SIZEOF_N_SECTION_OFFSETS (debug_objfile->num_sections));

... which seems to greatly over-estimate the number of elements
needed.

This appeared in set_objfile_default_section_offset:

-  std::vector<struct section_offsets> offsets (objf->num_sections,
-					       { { offset } });

... which makes sense due to type safety, but is also actively
confusing given that section_offsets was previously also a kind of
vector type.

Tested on x86-64 Fedora 30.

e671856cb8 Change objfile::partial_symtabs to be a unique_ptr
A plan I had a while ago was to write the DWARF index in a worker
thread. This is why objfile::partial_symtabs is a shared_ptr.

However, it turned out that doing this required keeping the objfile
alive as well. Now that objfiles are managed using shared_ptr,
there's no need for partial_symtabs to be one as well, so this patch
reverts that change.

7d7167ce1b Manage objfiles with shared_ptr
This changes objfiles to be managed using a shared_ptr. shared_ptr is
chosen because it enables the use of objfiles in background threads.

The simplest way to do this was to introduce a new iterator that will
return the underlying objfile, rather than a shared_ptr. (I also
tried changing the rest of gdb to use shared_ptr, but this was quite
large; and to using intrusive reference counting, but this also was
tricky.)

268e4f0914 Make the objfile destructor private
The idea behind this is that, in the long run, some code will need to
be able to hold onto an objfile after it is unlinked from the program
space. In particular, this is needed for some functionality to be
moved to worker threads -- otherwise the objfile can be deleted while
still in use.

So, this makes ~objfile private, replacing it with an "unlink" method,
making it more obvious which operation is intended at the calling
points.

bda13cdcf0 Make the objfile constructor private
This changes the objfile constructor to be private, changing the
callers to use a factory method. This isn't perhaps strictly needed
for the goal of this series -- changing the container model of
objfiles -- but is a nice symmetry.

fd3619828e bfd_section_* macros
This large patch removes the unnecessary bfd parameter from various
bfd section macros and functions. The bfd is hardly ever used and if
needed for the bfd_set_section_* or bfd_rename_section functions can
be found via section->owner except for the com, und, abs, and ind
std_section special sections. Those sections shouldn't be modified
anyway.

The patch also removes various bfd_get_section_<field> macros,
replacing their use with bfd_section_<field>, and adds
bfd_set_section_lma. I've also fixed a minor bug in gas where
compressed section renaming was done directly rather than calling
bfd_rename_section. This would have broken bfd_get_section_by_name
and similar functions, but that hardly mattered at such a late stage
in gas processing.

0d12e84cfc Don't include gdbarch.h from defs.h
I touched symtab.h and was surprised to see how many files were
rebuilt. I looked into it a bit, and found that defs.h includes
gdbarch.h, which in turn includes many things.

gdbarch.h is only needed by a minority ofthe files in gdb, so this
patch removes the include from defs.h and updates the fallout.

I did "wc -l" on the files in build/gdb/.deps; this patch reduces the
line count from 139935 to 137030; so there are definitely future
build-time savings here.

Note that while I configured with --enable-targets=all, it's possible
that some *-nat.c file needs an update. I could not test all of
these. The buildbot caught a few problems along these lines.

268a13a5a3 Rename common to gdbsupport
This is the next patch in the ongoing series to move gdbsever to the
top level.

This patch just renames the "common" directory. The idea is to do
this move in two parts: first rename the directory (this patch), then
move the directory to the top. This approach makes the patches a bit
more tractable.

I chose the name "gdbsupport" for the directory. However, as this
patch was largely written by sed, we could pick a new name without too
much difficulty.

Tested by the buildbot.

e9ad22ee5f Introduce a separate debug objfile iterator
This introduces a new iterator and range adapter for iteration over
the separate debug files of a given objfile. As in the current
approach, the requested objfile is returned first, followed by the
separate debug objfiles.

042d75e42c Allocate minimal symbols with malloc
Currently, minimal symbols are allocated on the per-BFD obstack.
However, it is also possible for multiple symbol readers to create
minimal symbols for a given objfile. In this case, the minimal
symbols will be reallocated on the obstack, leading to some waste of
storage.

This is a memory leak, but I think it won't be caught by tools like
valgrind, because valgrind doesn't know about obstacks.

This patch fixes the problem by using malloc to allocate the storage
for minimal symbols.

d6797f465c Simplify per-BFD storage management
There's no reason that the objfile_per_bfd_storage must be allocated
via bfd_alloc. This patch changes objfile_per_bfd_storage to be
managed more simply, via ordinary new and delete; and moves some code
into its (new) destructor.

While doing this I also noticed an extra initialization of
language_of_main, and removed it.

1b7a07cba0 Use bitset for demangled_hash_languages
I noticed that objfile_per_bfd_storage::demangled_hash_languages is a
std::vector, which seemed quite large for something that,
fundamentally, can be represented as a bitset. This patch
reimplements it as a std::bitset.
